The Race is On to Provide Influencer Marketing Analytics

Last week, two firms announced new moves to provide measurement for influencer marketing. Ahalogy created a third-party-verified influencer-marketing program that the firm says will go beyond social followers or other metrics to be able to select influencers that pass a “quality-traffic” test (that is, no bots) and verified engagement metrics, and it will double-check how paid media impressions are delivered.

Facebook Now Has 2 Billion Monthly Users… and Responsibility

“We’re getting to a size where it’s worth really taking a careful look at what are all the things that we can do to make social media the most positive force for good possible,” Facebook Chief Product Officer Chris Cox told TechCrunch about the company’s new milestone. Thirteen years after launching and less than five years after hitting 1 billion, Facebook now has 2 billion monthly active users.

Google Explains What Near Duplicate Content Is

Google’s Gary Illyes explains what he meant with the term “near duplicate content.” Gary posted it on Twitter saying near duplicate content can be thought of as “a piece of content that was slightly changed.” He added that it can also be near duplicate when the “it was copied 1:1 but the boilerplate is different.”

YouTube Adds More Details, and Restrictions, Around Which Videos Can be Monetized

YouTube has promised to give advertisers greater control over where their ads appear and to give creators a better sense of what they need to avoid if they want their videos to make money. The video service is expanding its creator guidelines on what constitutes an “ad-friendly” video, offering up more details about dos and don’ts, and, importantly, adding three new categories of videos that won’t be eligible for advertising.

Instagram Stories Now Has 250 Million Daily Active Users, Heating Up Its Rivalry With Snapchat

When it comes to total daily users, Instagram Stories, the section of the app for daily, disappearing posts, is beginning to pull farther ahead of Snapchat.

According to Instagram, at least 250 million users use the app’s vertical format every day, up from 200 million just two months ago. The latest count places the Facebook-owned app’s feature at nearly 100 million more per day than Snapchat, which reported 166 million daily users for as of its first-quarter earnings results.

Google Introduces Tool for Identifying Annoying Ads on Your Site

Google has introduced a tool for publishers to help them identify how annoying and intrusive their site’s ads are.

The new tool, called Ad Experience Report, measures how well a site’s ads comply with the Better Ads Standards, which are determined by the Coalition for Better Ads. Publishers can also refer to Google’s new best practices guide.

Young Consumers May Use Ad Blockers, but That Doesn’t Mean They Don’t Like Seeing Brands Online

Even though younger generations are more likely to use ad blockers or skip ads when they can, they’re also incredibly responsive to informative and socially-relevant brand presences online.

According to a new study conducted by Defy Media’s Acumen Research and TMI Strategy, young consumers get annoyed by ads that interrupt their viewing or social media experience but are receptive to ads or brands that respect their online space.

Google Opportunity: Produce Content In Non English Languages

Another tidbit at SMX Advanced from Gary Illyes of Google, something he said a few months ago is that there is a huge opportunity to rank for keywords in non-English languages. He said there is a lack of content and web pages for non-English languages.
