A YouTube TV app, all the new “Made by Google” products, polling capabilities on Instagram, and big changes to AdWords budgets has made October a very busy month. Put down those mini chocolate bars and turn off that scary movie and catch up on the latest updates in the marketing and technology world, with this month’s digital marketing update.

Lean back and watch YouTube TV with a new app for your big screen

Today, Oct 30th, YouTube has unveiled the new YouTube TV app built for TV devices. In the next few days, you’ll be able to stream live TV through the new YouTube TV app on Android TV devices including NVIDIA SHIELD and TVs with Android TV built-in, such as Sony, as well as on the Xbox One family of devices (Xbox One, Xbox One S, and soon Xbox One X).

In the coming weeks they’ll also be launching the new app on Smart TVs, such as LG, Samsung, Sony, along with Apple TV. They also recently expanded our TV device support by launching voice commands with Google Home paired with Chromecast.

Here’s what Google announced at its “Made by Google” Pixel event

On October 4, Google held a product launch event in San Francisco. Fast Company’s Daniel Terdiman, Mark Sullivan, and Harry McCracken were there to provide live updates on the news, which included two Pixel phones, low-end and high-end versions of the Google Home smart speaker, a Chrome OS-based laptop-tablet hybrid called the PixelBook, an update to the Daydream headset, Pixel Buds headphones, and the AI-infused Google Clips camera.

Facebook officially rolls out its discovery-focused ‘Explore Feed’

Facebook’s tests of an alternative News Feed dubbed the “Explore” feed have progressed to a full rollout, the company now confirms. Previously available on mobile devices in the main navigation, Facebook’s new Explore Feed is now appearing for users on the desktop, as well. Facebook tells TechCrunch this is the beginning of the official rollout of the Explore feed.

Did Samsung just one-up Apple on its Cool Factor?

Samsung announced a lot of really cool things at this year’s Samsung Developer Conference, including Bixby 2.0 (Samsung’s version of Siri), the SmartThings Cloud, and an AR partnership with Google.

Google doubles AdWords budgets and advertisers are unhappy

Google has made a significant change to the way AdWords budgets can be used, and the advertising community is not the least bit happy. Campaigns are now able to spend up to twice their average daily budget. The means on high traffic days, costs could soar as high as double the budget you have set.

Google says this change is being made to help advertisers better reach their goals, while noting it’s balanced by days when costs are below budget.

Instagram Stories mimics Polly with new polls

Polly blew up with teens last month by tacking multiple-choice polling onto Snapchat. Instagram is following suit with its own polling feature within Stories. Now just like adding a location sticker, you can add a two-answer poll on top of your Stories that friends can answer with a tap.

The importance of site-wide tagging for accurate conversion measurement

The recent introduction of Intelligent Tracking Prevention affects conversion measurement on Safari. It’s important to update your website tags as soon as possible so that you see all of your conversions from Safari. This is in line with Apple’s recommendations for ad attribution. Without updating your tags, it will be difficult to measure the efficacy of your marketing campaigns.

LinkedIn is testing autoplaying video ads on mobile

LinkedIn is the latest social network to begin selling autoplaying video ads. These ads will look just like other video posts, and will play without sound unless clicked on.  Microsoft, parent company of LinkedIn, only began letting users upload their own videos to the professional network in August.

Since then, the company reports video posts are already being shared 20 times more than other posts — making them highest performing content type.

YouTube announces new Creator Site

The completely refreshed design was developed for creators, with creators. The first thing YouTube did was take a deep look at how creators were using the original hub and optimized their design to better support their user journeys. Then, they brought creators into the design process to get their feedback on what they liked, and what could be improved. The end product offers more up-to-date information in a refreshed design that we hope will make it much easier for creators to explore and take advantage of all the resources available to them.
