Social Media Buy Buttons: Are They Right for Your Business?

As we’ve all noticed, Social Media is no longer just a “social” platform: it’s now also a news outlet, an event marketing base, and an opportunity for businesses to promote and sell their products online. Early last year, all of the main platforms — Facebook, Pinterest, YouTube, Instagram — launched “Buy Buttons” and virtual stores, in the hopes that the billions of users browsing their sites can be enticed to make purchases online.

Being image-focused, platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest have more ability to take advantage of placing product images with Buy Buttons. Followers of a celebrity account, for example, may lust over a dress that the celebrity is wearing and must know, right away, where they can find it. Buy Buttons can help to remove all of the friction that may come between an immediate purchase decision, and the steps of having to search for an item, add it to cart, and go through the full checkout process. Instead, buyers can have their favorite celebrity outfit en-route with the simplicity of a single click.

Social media buy buttons could very well be the final piece in the puzzle to give credence to the saying “shop at the click of a button.” – ViSenze

However, it is important to understand that online shoppers still expect a solid amount of product information to accompany these images, so that they feel well-informed when making purchase decisions. So if you are going to try implementing Buy Buttons in your social media strategy, make sure the posts you use them with include detailed descriptions, such as sizing information for shoes and apparel, in addition to well-placed images.

What do you think about Buy Buttons? Do you think they are a feature that would work well with your products or services?

In addition to Buy Buttons, another great way to gain conversions through your social media accounts is by investing in PPC advertising. Download a copy of our free guide to Facebook Advertising to find out more.
